THE FRENCH UNIVERSITY SPORTS FEDERATION (FFSU)
Since 1920, the French University Sports Federation (FFSU) has organised and promoted competitive sport for students of higher education institutions (universities and schools), from regional to international level.
Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, in agreement with the Ministry of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the FFSU is a member of the International University Sports Federation(FISU), the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the French National Olympic and Sports Committee(CNOSF).
The FFSU's primary mission is to organise and promote competitive sport for all students in higher education, whether enrolled at a university or a grande école. It also represents France at major international competitions, including the Universiades (the world's largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games), the World University Championships, and numerous international tournaments and meetings.
At national level, it awards the titles of French University Champion and Academic Regional Champion. Finally, it is committed to making it easier to combine sporting activity, at every level, with the pursuit of higher education.
EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY SPORTS ASSOCIATION
The European University Sports Association (EUSA) is the governing body for university sports in Europe. Founded in 1999, EUSA promotes the values of education, sportsmanship, and cultural exchange through its extensive network of member federations across the continent. Its main objective is to strengthen the role of sport in higher education and encourage cooperation among European universities.
EUSA organises a wide range of university sports events, with the European Universities Championships being one of its flagship initiatives. These championships bring together student-athletes from across Europe to compete at a high level, fostering friendship, diversity, and mutual respect among participants.
Beyond organising competitions, EUSA plays an important role in advancing university sports through various projects and programmes that focus on inclusion, equality, and personal development. Its efforts contribute to the growth of a vibrant and active university sports community throughout Europe.
